EMQ’s With Brave

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Brazilian Power Metallers, Brave. Huge thanks to their Bassist, Ricardo Carbonero, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play, and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

My name is Ricardo Carbonero, I’m the band’s bassist.

Brave started in 1998, initially recording some singles, EPs and demo tapes. The band went through some line-up changes, and in 2012 they recorded their first full album, “The Last Battle” and in 2016 they released their second album, “Kill the Bastard”. In 2020 they released their third album “The Oracle”, which led to a tour with Steve Grimmett, and since then the band has been releasing clips to promote their albums, and playing shows and continuing to promote the band, and recently we are releasing the songs from our new album “Freedom”. The songs are being released every 20/30 days and at the end of the release of the songs, the album will be released in physical format by a record label that we cannot yet disclose the name of.

How did you come up with your band name?

The name Brave came from the classic film Braveheart, but to make it easier to pronounce, it was Brave.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

I’m from Brazil, outside of São Paulo, the scene here is very good, with excellent bands of all genres.

What is your latest release? (Album, EP, Single, Video)

Our latest release is the 4th full album “Freedom”.

Who has been your greatest influences?

Our biggest influences are from the bands Judas Priest, Accept, Dio, Running Wild, Manowar, Motorhead, among others in the Heavy Metal style.

What first got you into music?

Since I was little, I’ve always listened to my uncles Norberto (RIP) and André (RIP), listening to Creedence, Kiss, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Deep Purple, and that sparked my interest in Rock/Metal.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

I would collaborate with my 16-year-old son Arthur and his bands “Starbugs” and “Choque Térmico”.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

It would be at Wacken, I think this is every Metal artist’s dream.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

It was a ring, which to this day I don’t know what it means, lol.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Be true in everything you do, always!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be? Why?

Lemmy Kilminster, he is greatly missed here on earth.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

What I like most is going on stage. I don’t hate it, but the lack of recognition is really bad.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

Give more opportunities to underground bands, here in Brazil most underground bands, if they had the opportunity, would conquer the world.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums.

Deathgeist – “666”

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

It was the Tour shows with Steve Grimmett in Brazil.

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

I would be working at my course school.

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

King Diamond, Angus Young, Mel Gibson, Geezer Butler, Sammi Hinka.

What’s next for the band?

Release of physical material, clips and many shows to promote our work.

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

Barm Cake.

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

I would like to thank you for the invitation for the interview and let you know to stay tuned for Brave’s new album “Freedom”.
