EMQ’s With SHATTERHEART

Hi everyone! Welcome to another EMQs interview, this time with Swedish Symphonic Metallers, Shatterheart. Huge thanks to their Guitarist, Johan, for taking part.

What is your name, what do you play and can you tell us a little bit about the history of the band?

Hi, my name is Johan and I play guitar in the Symphonic Metal band, Shatterheart.

The history of Shatterheart is still quite young. I started the band as a side project in 2023. Normally, I play Classic Hard Rock/Metal, but I wanted to do something different. After I wrote some songs, things got more serious. In 2024, we started the recording of our debut album, and at the same time, we found the last members of the lineup.

How did you come up with your band name?

It actually comes from the game series Final Fantasy.

What Country / Region are you from and what is the Metal / Rock scene like there?

Gothenburg, Sweden. The scene used to be among the best in the world since we have bands like In Flames, Amaranthe and Hammerfall. Unfortunately, the scene nowadays is much smaller and there are barely any places left for small bands to play at.

What is your latest release?

Our latest release is the single from our upcoming album called “Betrayal”.

Who have been your greatest influences?

I should say bands as Nightwish and Within Temptation, but there are also some more rock influences there as well.

What first got you into music?

Probably when I was a child in the Mid to late 90s and saw Kiss on TV. I was mindblown.

If you could collaborate with a current band or musician who would it be?

There are so many, but right now it would be awesome to work or tour with Visions of Atlantis.

If you could play any festival in the world, which would you choose and why?

Sweden Rock would be a dream come true, but why not Wacken while we are still dreaming? Sweden Rock has been a second home on holy ground for many years, but Wacken… well, I don’t need to say more.

What’s the weirdest gift you have ever received from a fan?

Hmm, I don’t recall ever having received something from a fan. Nothing I can remember right now anyway.

If you had one message for your fans, what would it be?

Stay tuned because we have a lot of exciting stuff to show you, and the best is yet to come!

If you could bring one rock star back from the dead, who would it be?

That’s a hard one! I miss Dio. He died way too young. But I would also like to bring back Eric Carr from Kiss. He’s still my favorite drummer.

What do you enjoy the most about being a musician? And what do you hate?

To create music. Just see (or actually hear) an idea grow from just an idea of a riff or melody to a whole song. That’s a really cool journey. And then of course after the song is done – see the journey from a demo to a mixed product that fans actually enjoy!

But I don’t like all the work around the band that we have to do these days. You have to run your band as a company and do everything, which can be really exhausting.

If you could change one thing about the music industry, what would it be?

I would like it to be like the good old days. Get rid of the internet and let musicians be musicians.

Name one of your all-time favourite albums?

Iron Maiden – “Brave New World.”

What’s best? Vinyl, Cassettes, CD’s or Downloads?

Vinyl!

What’s the best gig that you have played to date?

We are a brand new band, so we will play our very first show soon, which we are looking forward to! We also have a couple of festivals booked abroad! So stay tuned!

If you weren’t a musician, what else would you be doing?

It is hard to imagine yourself doing something else than what you love the most!

Which five people would you invite to a dinner party?

Many people to choose from, that would be a tough decision!

What’s next for the band?

We have a new music video coming soon, a debut album, singles! Lots of stuff!

What Social Media / Website links do you use to get your music out to people?

All the essential links are gathered here:

Time for a very British question now. As an alternative to the humble sandwich, is the correct name for a round piece of bread common in the UK either a Bap, a Barm (or Barm Cake), a Batch, a Bun, a Cob, a Muffin, a Roll or a Tea Cake?

Tea cake? (Sorry to our British fans if this is the wrong question!)

Thank you for your time. Is there anything else that you would like to add?

Thank you a lot for your support, your time and stay tuned for more exciting things!
